Emily Dickinson lived all her life among family and friends in the small college town of Amherst, Massachusetts. When she died in 1886, she left over 1,700 poems; hundreds of them were found in a single locked box by her sister Lavinia. In them she envisioned worlds far beyond the apparent simplicity of her daily life. Acts of Light contains eighty poems, carefully chosen to reflect the wide range of Dickinson's work, the clear passionate voice of the woman who saw "New Englandly." Accompanying the poems are eleven evocative full-color paintings by Nancy Ekholm Burkert and an eloquent appreciation by Jane Langton. In their illuminating tribute to this enigmatic yet beloved American poet, Burkert and Langton evoke, as one reviewer noted, "not any single poem, but the essence and the associations of the poet's world."
