Education

The Museum's mission statement speaks directly to our programmatic commitment to students and educators; "In fulfilling our mission, we aspire to build bridges to an appreciation of art of every kind and to provide an enriching, dynamic, and supportive context for the development of literacy..." The educational programs at The Carle are designed to support the development of students' visual literacy and verbal (oral and written) skills through use of the Visual Thinking Strategies created by Abigail Housen and Philip Yenawine. This method has been shown to enhance and complement basic reading skills, language development, and writing skills.
